Cyprus Cheesemakers Association
For centuries, the people of Cyprus have poured their effort and dedication into crafting the island’s cherished dairy products, preserving a deep-rooted and vibrant cheesemaking tradition. Today, these dairy treasures—most notably the “white gold” of Cyprus, halloumi—stand as some of the nation’s most prominent export successes, positioning the industry as a cornerstone of the Cypriot economy. Honoring this rich legacy, the Cyprus Cheesemakers Association is committed to advancing, enhancing, and expanding the sector, ensuring the continued excellence of its products while driving the economic prosperity of our island.
Board of Directors and Members
The establishment of the Cyprus Cheesemakers Association arose from the need for an organized entity to support professional cheesemakers and champion the growth and advancement of the sector. Membership in the Association is open to any legal or natural person legally engaged in the cheesemaking profession. The Association’s Board of Directors, elected by the General Assembly, is entrusted with guiding the organization’s initiatives and ensuring the implementation of decisions made during the Annual General Assemblies.
Halloumi
The history of halloumi is deeply intertwined with that of Cyprus, reflecting the island’s heritage and its people. As an iconic element of authentic Cypriot cuisine, halloumi is often referred to as the island’s “white gold.” It stands among the oldest cheeses in the world, with a legacy that transcends generations. Cypriot cheesemakers have preserved, refined, and elevated this tradition over the centuries, transforming halloumi from a staple of local tables into a globally cherished and renowned delicacy found in kitchens around the world.
